A SHORT REPORT OF SCHOOL 2005-2006

1. Academically it is still a recognized primary school. Pupils appear for their 4th +5th+6th standard exams in the State High School (3) Dagon. Those who passed join S.H.S (3) Dagon or join the vocational training classes. There are already 2 graduates B.Sc (Botany) and B.Sc (Zoology). This academic year there were 162 Boarders and 205 Day Scholars. Boards and 205 Day Scholars. Boards include 6th + 7th + 8th + 9th + 10th Standard pupils. Who study in Dagon S.H.S (3), 334 pupils KG to 6th standard. Vocational training 19 pupils.

Pupils attending S.H.S (3) Dagon. 7th STD: 16 pupils, 8th STD: 10 pupils, 9th STD: 11 pupils, 10th STD: 13 pupils, 38 pupils appeared for their 4th standard exams in Dagon. S.H.S (3) and all passed. Mg Tin Kyaw Naing: passed his Matriculation in 2002. Mg Tin Kyaw Naing is now taking a correspondence course in the University Second Year Arts (Burmese). 2. Girl Ma Hpyu Nyein San and Ma Lei Lei Lwin passed in 2004 March. Ma Hpyu Nyein San is now attending a first year course (Chemistry) in North Dagon Arts and Science University.

3. Vocational Training classes. Those who have gained skill in the Vocational training and are in need of equipment are given equipment to start earning their living, sewing, knitting, crochet, dress making, machine-knitting, macramé, embroidery are the courses given. The finished goods are sold on the premises.

4. Audiological Unit has started full time this year especially the speech training side with one full time and one part teacher, that is, the children who can use the hearing aids. It will include also how to take care of the hearing aids. Those who become skilled in the use of the hearing aids will be given as they leave school. 123 children are supplied with hearing aids.

1990-1991. During the summer vocation, our teaching staff worked out and completed a book of Sign Language to teach Myanmar grammar, opposite words, and part of the body. We continue our work on deaf dictionary too.

1992 In February, State Peace and development Council Secretary 1 and Major of Yangon visited our school and contributed Kyats 30,0000/- a starting fund for the construction of (45 110') new building needed for vocational training.The Major of Yangon also donated a car MAZADA. T 2000 for school ferry.

1993 The new two storied building for vocational training was opened in June. State Peace and Development Council Secretary 1 attended the opening ceremony. Vocational training given are Dress making, Machine and Hand Knitting, Macrame, Embroidery, Cooking, Book-binding and Typewriting.

  • In this building we now have Audiological Unit and special class room for the pupils where they were taught speech with the use of hearing aids.
  • We also have now a library and alter room for regular worship service every week.

1994 This year one-and-a-half year teachers training course was given with four trainees Naw Bway Say Wa, Babara Mya Mya Maw, Naw M Lay Ta Paw and Naw V Tu Paw.All four of them were appointed after they completed the training course in the month of January.

1995
Through World Vision, Heartspring Welfare Centre, Vichita, Kansas, USA Audiological Unit sent four expertises to give one short course training from 16th to 30th Jan. They are Mrs. Linda Parmita Jacobs, (Director of Audiology) Mrs. Carol Jarod Brown. (Clinical audiologist) Mrs. Terri Hubbard. (Audio Meter Technician). Mrs. Jennifer Johnson. (Director of Assessment and treatment). 12 teachers from our school, 3 from Deaf school Mandalay and doctors from ear department of E.N.T Hospital Yangon attended this course.

1996
Student Population of this year is (183) 123 pupils are provided with hearing aids during class hours. Another 1 ½ year teacher training course with 5 trainees is given the trainees are Daw Thida Thein, Daw Tin May Aye, U Thein Zar Lian, Daw Mai New Ni and Daw Mary Myintzu.

1997-98
The five trained teachers are appointed as a full time teacher this year.
This year. This year World Vision had stopped their regular financial support because of a change in their donor's policy.

1999-2000
from June 1999 we have a sound – proof classroom for teaching the children with hearing aids with two trained teachers. This helps the children to hear and learn better pronunciations.
In the month of January, World Vision helped us to have another audio-training with the some experts sent from Heartspring Welfare Centre (Audiological Unit).

Mr. Jack E. Andrew, Ms.Linda Parmita Jacobs, Mrs. Carol Jarad Brown and Mrs. Terri Hubbard conducted the 5-day course.

  • This year 172 pupils are provided with hearing aids.
  • Dedication of the new building was held in 15th January 2000.

In March teachers started working on deaf dictionary.
Christoffel-Blinden Mission help us to have one short course for teachers on deaf language Mr. Tom Bristow and Mr. & Mrs./ Ron Brouilette (expertise on deaf subject) taught Basic Hand Signs, Methods to produce deaf dictionary and methods and system to keep the Audio Unit and materials in good order.

2000-2001
Two teachers Daw V Tu Paw and Daw Khin Phu Phu attended 3 months training course given by professor U Myo Min of ENT Hospital Ear-testing techniques, fixing and up keep of hearing aids and apparatuses are taught.

2004-
Onwards will be bringing out 9 textbooks Vocabulary Signs for use for the pupils in Yangon and Mandalay school for the Deaf. Funds are much needed.
2005- After this year, the already compiled sign language Dictionary will we hope be quite completed and printed. Will need funds.
